Rocky Mount, NC - The 24th-ranked N.C. Wesleyan men's tennis team delivered a dominant performance on Friday night, sweeping No. 16 Washington and Lee 7-0 at the Indoor Sports and Education Facility. The Battling Bishops (3-2) secured a clean sweep in both doubles and singles play, showcasing depth and resilience against a nationally ranked opponent.
Doubles Dominance The Bishops set the tone early by capturing all three doubles matches. At the top spot, Luca Knese and Albert Sitwell made quick work of Evan Erb and Will Kistler, securing a 6-1 victory. The No. 2 duo of Logan Stoltz and Shori Nishizoe battled to a tiebreak win, edging Ryan Good and James Kurani 7-6 (7-2). In the third doubles flight, Diego Segovia and Rodrigo Montes de Oca held firm in another tight match, earning a 7-6 (7-4) win over Heys Parker and Eli Hirshberg to complete the doubles sweep.
Sweeping Singles Play Wesleyan carried its momentum into singles competition, winning all six matches in straight sets. Diego Segovia led the charge at No. 1 singles, overpowering Will Kistler 6-3, 6-2. Luca Knese followed with a clutch performance at No. 2, taking down James Kurani 6-2, 7-5.
Bohdan Zhylchuk delivered an impressive effort at No. 3, grinding out a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 victory over Eli Hirshberg. Shori Nishizoe (No. 4) and Albert Sitwell (No. 5) each recorded decisive wins, with Nishizoe defeating Heys Parker 6-3, 6-2 and Sitwell prevailing 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-4) over Sanjheev Rao. Logan Stoltz capped off the sweep with a strong 6-3 win at No. 6 over Jake Vo.
