North Carolina Wesleyan University

4C Athletic Philosophy

5 C's
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. CLASSROOM SUCCESS. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT. COMPETITIVE EXCELLENCE. CHAMPIONS FOR LIFE.

The Department of Athletics at North Carolina Wesleyan participates in the total educational mission of the University. Athletics here are an integral part of the co-curriculum and serve to enhance a student-athlete's physical well-being, emotional and intellectual growth, and academic success.

Opportunities are provided fairly and equitable to all teams and athletes at Wesleyan, without regard to sport, gender, or other factors. Programs are devised to provide excellent competitive experiences and to link back to the educational mission.

Wesleyan athletics competes within the rules of the NCAA Division III and of the USA South Conference. Student-athletes are expected to compete within these rules, as well as to observe team, department, and University rules. Additionally, Wesleyan student-athletes are expected to work diligently toward their degree, exhibit the highest standard of ethical conduct and sportsmanship, and compete at a level worthy of champions.

In fulfilling the mission of the Department of Athletics, the 5C Philosophy is emphasized throughout our programs. Character Development, Classroom Success, Community Involvement, Competitive Excellence and Champions for Life are pursued with vigor by our staff and student-athletes because we truly believe this philosophy helps our Bishops become better people, better students, better citizens and better athletes both now and in the future.
