Rocky Mount, NC - The No. 34 nationally ranked North Carolina Wesleyan men's tennis team continued its strong postseason run on Friday morning, sweeping Southern Virginia University 4-0 in the semifinals of the 2025 USA South Athletic Conference Tournament at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center.
With the win, the Battling Bishops improve punch a ticket to the USA South Championship match, where NCWU will compete for the program's 16th consecutive conference tournament title.
Wesleyan set the tone early by dominating in doubles play. The No. 3 duo of Francesco Raparo and Bohdan Zhylchuk rolled to a quick 6-0 victory, while the top pairing of Luca Knese and Albert Sitwell followed with an equally convincing 6-0 win to clinch the doubles point for the Bishops. The No. 2 doubles match was left unfinished with Brody Brice and Logan Stoltz leading 4-2 when the point was secured.
Carrying momentum into singles action, the Bishops wasted no time closing out the match. Sitwell delivered the first singles point at the No. 4 position with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout. Shori Nishizoe followed with an identical 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles to make it 3-0 Wesleyan. Zhylchuk then sealed the match at the No. 3 slot with a strong 6-0, 6-1 performance to secure the 4-0 sweep and send the Bishops through to the final.
Knese, Diego Segovia, and Stoltz were all leading singles matches before play was halted due to the clinch.
Wesleyan will now look to bring home yet another USA South championship, continuing its long-standing tradition of excellence within the conference. The Bishops will face Methodist in the title match, scheduled for Saturday at 10:00 AM back at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center.
