NC Wesleyan Women’s Tennis Shines in Memphis Matchups

The NC Wesleyan women's tennis team put together a strong showing during its trip to Memphis, competing against Hendrix College, Rhodes College, and DePauw University over the weekend.

Hendrix College

The Bishops opened the trip with a 4-0 victory over Hendrix College at the Leftwich Tennis Center. NC Wesleyan secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Bethan Fothergill and Renata Torres battled to a 7-5 victory at the top spot, while Andrea Elaez Miranda and Ivanna Torres added a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.

In singles play, Wesleyan captured the three completed matches to clinch the team victory. Andrea Elaez Miranda earned a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles, Bethan Fothergill followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2, and Renata Torres added another straight-set performance with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3. The remaining matches went unfinished once the team result was secured, giving the Bishops a strong start to the weekend.

Rhodes College

NC Wesleyan next faced Rhodes College in a competitive matchup. The Bishops claimed the doubles point after strong performances from the top two pairs. Bethan Fothergill and Renata Torres secured a 7-5 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Ivanna Torres and Andrea Elaez Miranda followed with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles.

In singles play, Renata Torres picked up Wesleyan's lone singles victory with a hard-fought three-set win at No. 4 singles. Several matches were tightly contested throughout the lineup, but Rhodes ultimately claimed the remaining singles courts to take the 5-2 team decision.

DePauw University

The Bishops closed the weekend with a dominant 7-0 victory over DePauw University. NC Wesleyan swept all three doubles matches to take early control, highlighted by wins from Bethan Fothergill and Renata Torres at No. 1, Andrea Elaez Miranda and Ivanna Torres at No. 2, and Ajla Selimovic with Peyton McGahey at No. 3.

Wesleyan carried that momentum into singles play, winning all six matches to complete the sweep. Andrea Elaez Miranda and Bethan Fothergill secured straight-set victories at the top two courts, while Renata Torres and Ivanna Torres each battled through three-set matches to earn wins. Ajla Selimovic added another strong performance at No. 5, and BreAnn Ferguson closed the match with a three-set victory at No. 6.

Across the three matches, NC Wesleyan displayed strong depth and consistency throughout the lineup, finishing the Memphis trip with two team victories and several impressive individual performances.
