Bishops Sweep Methodist to Win USA South Championship

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan women's tennis team capped off a championship run on April 25, sweeping Methodist 4-0 to win the USA South Conference Championship at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center.

The Bishops set the tone early in doubles play, securing the doubles point with strong performances at No. 2 and No. 3. Andrea Elaez Miranda and Ivanna Torres earned a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Ajla Selimovic and Peyton McGahey followed with a dominant 6-1 win at No. 3 to give Wesleyan the early advantage.

NC Wesleyan carried that momentum into singles, where they quickly closed out the match with three decisive wins. Ajla Selimovic delivered a commanding 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles, followed by BreAnn Ferguson with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 performance at No. 6. Andrea Elaez Miranda sealed the championship at No. 1 singles with a strong 6-3, 6-2 win.

Several other matches were in progress when the team result was decided, but the Bishops' depth and efficiency allowed them to secure the 4-0 sweep.

With the win, NC Wesleyan claims its fourth consecutive USA South Conference Championship and eighth overall, continuing the program's dominance in the conference. Andrea Elaez Miranda was named Tournament MVP, while BreAnn Ferguson, Ajla Selimovic, and Ivanna Torres earned All-Tournament Team honors. Methodist's Shea Bieniek and Caitlin Tihanovich were also named to the All-Tournament Team.

The championship marks another milestone for the program, as the Bishops once again showcased their consistency, depth, and championship pedigree on their home courts.
