NC Wesleyan Concludes Memorable Season Against No. 6 Emory

Atlanta, G.A. - The NC Wesleyan women's tennis team saw its historic 2026 season come to a close on May 9, falling to No. 6 Emory University 4-0 in the second round of NCAA Regional play at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

Facing one of the nation's top programs, the Bishops battled throughout the morning against elite competition. Emory gained the early advantage by securing the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. NC Wesleyan's pairing of Ajla Selimovic and Peyton McGahey was locked in a competitive battle at No. 3 doubles before the match went unfinished.

In singles play, the Bishops continued to compete with toughness and determination against the nationally ranked Eagles. Several matches remained highly competitive before the overall team result was decided. Andrea Elaez Miranda was battling at No. 1 singles, while Ivanna Torres and BreAnn Ferguson were also still competing when the match concluded.

Despite the final score, the Bishops capped off one of the most successful seasons in program history. NC Wesleyan finished the year with a USA South Conference Championship, its fourth consecutive conference tournament title and eighth overall, while also advancing to NCAA Regional play once again.

Throughout the season, the Bishops consistently showcased depth, resilience, and composure across the lineup. Players such as Andrea Elaez Miranda, Bethan Fothergill, Ivanna Torres, Renata Torres, Ajla Selimovic, BreAnn Ferguson, and Peyton McGahey all played key roles in the team's championship season and postseason run.

This match also marked the final collegiate match for a special senior class that helped continue the championship standard of NC Wesleyan women's tennis. Their leadership, dedication, and success on and off the court will leave a lasting impact on the program for years to come. The seniors represented NC Wesleyan with tremendous pride, consistency, and sportsmanship throughout their careers, and their contributions will certainly be missed moving forward.

Although the season came to an end against one of the nation's top teams, the Bishops once again proved they belong among the top programs in the region while continuing to build upon the championship culture that defines NC Wesleyan women's tennis.
