Carol Carson enters her 36th year at North Carolina Wesleyan University, where she currently serves as Assistant Athletic Director for Medical Services and Senior Woman Administrator. A cornerstone of the Battling Bishops' athletic department, Carson has dedicated over three decades to the health, safety, and holistic well-being of Wesleyan’s student-athletes.
Promoted to her current administrative role in 2017 after 29 years as the University’s Head Athletic Trainer, Carson now oversees all aspects of athletic medical services, including injury documentation, student-athlete insurance, medical clearance protocols, drug testing coordination, and physician communication. She also holds key NCAA designations as Health Administrator and Senior Woman Administrator, and beginning in 2018, she took on added responsibilities as Compliance and Eligibility Coordinator alongside former Head Coach and administrator John Thompson.
Carson’s tenure at Wesleyan includes being part of two NCAA Division III National Championship baseball teams, serving as Head Athletic Trainer for the Battling Bishops during their title runs in 1989 and 1999. Her decades of service have earned her induction into both the North Carolina Wesleyan Athletics Hall of Fame (2006) and the George Whitfield Baseball Hall of Fame.
Beyond her athletic duties, Carson is an integral member of the NCWU campus community. She serves as an instructor in the Exercise Science department and is actively involved in the University’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter, mentoring student-athletes both on and off the field.
A native of Statesville, North Carolina, Carson earned her bachelor’s degree in School and Community Health with an emphasis in Sports Medicine from East Carolina University in 1983, followed by a master’s degree in Health and Physical Education in 1984. She resides in Rocky Mount and remains one of the most respected and enduring leaders in the Battling Bishops athletic tradition.
