N.C. Wesleyan alumna Desireé Driver has returned to her alma mater after spending the past four seasons as head coach at Averett University in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).
Driver is no stranger to the Battling Bishops, having served as an assistant coach at Wesleyan for nine seasons prior to her tenure at Averett. During that stretch, she played a key role in the program’s 2021 USA South East Division championship run, where the Bishops posted a perfect 12-0 conference record, finished 15-1 overall, and earned a signature victory over Division I UNC Greensboro. In addition to coaching, she also directed intramural sports and recreation at Wesleyan.
At Averett, Driver guided the Cougars through their transition from the USA South to the ODAC, producing an all-conference selection in 2021-22 while leading her 2022-23 squad to a top-10 national ranking in offensive rebounding. Earlier in her career, she spent a year coaching high school basketball at Flagler Palm Coast (Fla.) and has worked with numerous camps and clinics.
A Minneapolis native, Driver was a standout four-year starter for the Battling Bishops from 2007-11. A two-time team captain, she earned USA South Academic All-Conference honors all four years and was a three-time Scholar Athlete Award recipient.
Driver graduated from N.C. Wesleyan in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and went on to earn a master’s degree in parks, recreation, tourism, and sports management from N.C. State University in 2016.
