Mike Armbruster enters his sixth year as Assistant Athletic Director and Head of Internal Operations at North Carolina Wesleyan University. A key member of the department’s leadership team, Armbruster oversees the day-to-day operational management of Wesleyan’s sixteen NCAA Division III athletic programs, with a focus on student-athlete experience, coach support, and departmental efficiency.

Since joining the Battling Bishops in 2019, Armbruster has played a central role in elevating internal operations and strategic planning across all sports. He serves as the department’s primary liaison with campus partners, alumni, and external stakeholders, while also managing scheduling, travel, compliance logistics, and game operations. In addition to his administrative duties, he has spearheaded multiple department-wide initiatives, including the launch of Wesleyan’s first-ever sport-specific alumni celebration events and new fundraising campaigns that have directly supported facility enhancements and program growth.

Prior to his arrival in Rocky Mount, Armbruster spent eight years at the University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) in Lima, where he served as Director of Athletic Operations. While at UNOH, he was instrumental in the expansion of athletic operations, guiding the development of internal systems and serving in multiple capacities, including Head Women’s Basketball Coach for four seasons and Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach for eight seasons. He also held the role of Sports Information Director for the baseball and softball programs in 2014.

“Mike’s extensive operations experience, engaging demeanor, and passion for students continues to serve Wesleyan well,” said Athletic Director Aaron Denton. “He is a hard worker with valuable expertise in growing athletic programs and serving coaches. I’m excited about Mike’s continued impact on improving the student-athlete experience at Wesleyan.”

Armbruster earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from UNOH, completing his B.A. in Business Administration in 2010 and his M.B.A., magna cum laude, in 2017.

He and his wife, Brittany, reside in Rocky Mount and are active supporters of Bishop Athletics and the Wesleyan community.
