Football on Longest Win Streak in Eight Years, Dominates Methodist 27-3

Fayetteville, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan football program stomped Methodist on the road Saturday night by a score of 27-3. The win marks the program's fourth straight, making it the longest winning streak in eight years.

The N.C. Wesleyan football team left its mark in Fayetteville on Saturday night, spoiling Homecoming festivities for the Monarchs with a convincing 27-3 victory. In the first half, Wesleyan seized control of the game, taking a 17-7 lead. This was made possible by the dominant ground attack of running back Anthony Byrd, who opened the game with an 18-yard rushing touchdown and added another from one yard out with nearly 90 seconds left in the first half.

Kicker Braxtyn Green contributed with a 24-yard field goal, maintaining his perfect season, and would later split the uprights from 40 yards away. with 5:31 left in the third.  The defensive unit had its most physical of the season by holding Methodist's rushing attack to a mere 45 yards, spread among three backs. Additionally, they successfully contained the Monarchs' passing game, preventing any Methodist receiver from reaching a 100-yard performance.

Leading the team in tackles was Andrew Brown, who made a significant impact with 7 total tackles. Ronechie Carter stood out with 5 solo tackles, showcasing his effectiveness in stopping Methodist's offense. The defensive line also played a crucial role in the game, pressuring Methodist's versatile quarterback Brandon Bullins. Sevion Brown was instrumental with a sack and a forced fumble, while Wesleyan's defense managed two quarterback hurries.

Every score for the Battling Bishops came on the ground, with the running back room having a record-breaking night, rushing for nearly 200 yards on 33 carries. In the passing game, quarterback Zachary Marquis delivered an efficient performance, throwing for 167 yards without a single turnover. Rahmir Anderson emerged as the leading receiver with 65 yards, closely followed by Christian Drumgoole with 56 yards.
