Men's Soccer Crushes Mary Baldwin on Senior Day

Rocky Mount, NC -  In one of the most well-rounded performances of the season, the N.C. Wesleyan Men's Soccer team celebrated Senior Day with a resounding 4-1 victory over Mary Baldwin. The Battling Bishops dominated from the opening whistle, outshooting the Squirrels 23-4, including a staggering 13 shots on goal. Furthermore, Wesleyan asserted its authority in possession, being on the attack nearly 80 percent of the game.

The breakthrough moment arrived in the 46th minute when Bautista Melilla, in a spectacular fashion, notched his first goal of the season. This pivotal goal was expertly assisted by Bastien Dechamps, who would see his named called later in the contest. The momentum continued to build for Wesleyan as Justo Espondo Neuss found the back of the net in the 63rd minute, scoring his third goal of the year. Bastien Dechamps once again showcased his play making abilities with another crucial assist.

Osei Darko then put the exclamation point on the victory in the 83rd minute, netting his fifth goal of the season, and sealing an emphatic win for the Battling Bishops. With this commanding performance, men's soccer finishes the regular season with an impressive 7-6-3 record and secures the 2nd place in the USA South.. The Battling Bishops will earn a well-deserved bye in the first round of the USA South Tournament, and will open conference tournament action on Thursday at Scalf Field.
