Rocky Mount, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan football team delivered a thrilling 30-24 upset victory over Brevard on Senior Day in Rocky Mount, capping off the 2024 home slate in style. The Bishops, led by a Freshman quarterback, came from behind after trailing 10-3 early to claim the win and improve to 4-3 in the league.

The game began with a quick strike from Braxtyn Green, who drilled a 25-yard field goal to give Wesleyan a 3-0 lead. However, Brevard quickly responded, scoring on its first two drives to take a 10-3 advantage.
In a pivotal moment, the Bishops turned to freshman quarterback Javier Rice, and the offense immediately surged. Rice, who showcased both his arm and legs, led Wesleyan to four consecutive scoring drives. His 15-yard rushing touchdown with just 26 seconds left in the first half tied the game at 10-10, capping off a twelve-play, 81-yard drive. Rice finished the game with 43 yards on the ground and a touchdown, while also completing 9 of 15 passes for 126 yards.
Anthony Byrd, continuing his outstanding season, was a key contributor in the second half. The Senior running back, who has been one of the most prolific rushers in Division III football this year, ran the ball 26 times for 169 yards and two touchdowns. Byrd's performance helped put the Bishops up by seven points at the start of the 4th quarter, with Wesleyan leading 24-17.
As the game neared its final moments, the defense stepped up to seal the win. With Brevard threatening, the Wesleyan defense held strong in the closing seconds and forced a turnover. Meanwhile, Green delivered two clutch field goals, hitting from 19 and 43 yards to keep the game out of reach for the Tornados.
