Rocky Mount, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought battle to reigning USA South Champions Southern Virginia in its home conference opener, 60-47. The Bishops came out strong in the first quarter, shooting an impressive 58% from the field, including 7-of-12 from the floor. However, despite a strong start, the Knights were able to rally and take control as the game progressed.

Senior Nadia Simmons led the charge for the Bishops, scoring fifteen points while adding four rebounds and four assists. The career 1,000-point scorer also contributed a pair of the team's seven steals. Forward Corynthian Williams had a solid all-around performance with eight points, five rebounds, and three assists, while Anaya Hall added five points and grabbed eight boards. Iyania Evana was also a force in the paint for NCWU, pulling down seven rebounds to help keep Wesleyan competitive throughout.
Southern Virginia, despite committing 23 turnovers, was able to take command of the contest thanks to a strong effort from its backcourt. The Knights had two players finish in double figures, leading the Knights to the victory.
