Newport News, VA - The N.C. Wesleyan women's tennis program hit the road to Newport News for the first official match played this spring.
Cristina Mendoza Romero shined in the #2 singles spot for the Battling Bishops defeating Mia Linam 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. After falling in the first set, she stormed back to an exhilarating comeback.

Wesleyan picked up another huge singles win at the #3 slot as
Andrea Elaez Miranda won by retirement in the third set. Up 2-1 in the final stanza, she also took the second set 6-3.
Bethan Fothergill had the distinction of playing in the most competitive singles match of the day at the #4 slot.The three set thriller saw her fall in the first set 6-3, but came back with a big tiebreaking win in the second set 7-6 (8-6) to set up a third set for all the marbles. While falling in heartbreaking fashion in the final set, Fothergill showed tremendous heart in the match and will have plenty of confidence heading into Hilton Head, SC.

The Lady Bishops will hit the court again on Sunday, March 3rd in Hilton Head, SC for the annual spring break trip. The Bishops will face Florida Southern, Saint Francis, and George Mason in the three match swing.
