Hilton Head, SC - The N.C. Wesleyan women's tennis program competed against world class competition in Hilton Head, SC for the program's annual spring break trip. On Monday and Tuesday, the Battling Bishops faced Saint Francis and George Mason, while winning four matches in thrilling fashion.
Match 1:
North Carolina Wesleyan 2, Saint Francis 5

North Carolina Wesleyan 2, George Mason 5
Facing off with the Red Flash, Wesleyan got off to a scorching hot start by way of a #2 doubles victory
Andrea Elaez Miranda and
Bethan Fothergill who got the 6-3 win. In singles competition, the Battling Bishops picked up a crucially important win at the #5 position by
Ivanna Torres who won in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. While competing intensely hard across the board,
Solomiia Badii would fall just short in the third set by way of a tiebreaker.
In the second match against George Mason out of Fairfax, VA, the Lady Bishops would come away with a doubles win at the #3 slot by a score of 6-4.
Ajla Selimovic and
Ivanna Torres' victory would set the tone for the Bishops to make a comeback in singles play. In one of the most competitive matches played during the entire weekend in Hilton Head, half of the singles matches would go to a third set tiebreaker, with USA South Tennis Athlete of the Week
Cristina Mendoza Romero coming out victorious at the #2 slot, winning by a slim 10-8 margin in the tiebreak.
