Rocky Mount, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan softball team faced Mary Washington on Saturday to conclude its eight game home stand. Falling in a 2-1 heartbreaker in game one, the Bishops could not gather momentum to carry into the day's second contest.
Game 1:
N.C. Wesleyan 1, Mary Washington 2
In a pitcher's dual,
Morgan Aycock would toss another complete game gem, striking out three Eagles and only allowing one earned run which came in the first inning. Down 2-0 entering the sixth frame,
Skyler Walker would come around the plate for Wesleyan's lone run in the 2-1 affair. In the leadoff spot,
Lillie Baumbach led the Bishops with two hits in three plate appearances.
Game 2:
N.C. Wesleyan 4, Mary Washington 8
Getting off to a hot start, the Eagles would plate eight runs in the top of the third thanks to five hits. Responsible for all four Battling Bishop runs,
Makayla Simmons would record her first of three RBI's on the day, doubling to bring home
Ava Lowry in the bottom frame of the inning. In the 5th, Simmons singled to left and added two RBIs to her credit, while reaching on a fielder's choice in the 7th for Wesleyan's final run.
