Hilton Head Island, SC - The N.C. Wesleyan men's tennis program wraps up its annual spring break trip in Hilton Head, SC after competing against two NCAA DI programs and an NCAA DII program.
Match 1:
Saint Francis 4, North Carolina Wesleyan 3
In the first match of the week, Wesleyan took DI Saint Francis down to the wire. Crushing the Red Flash in doubles play, the Battling Bishops would get the sweep and get off to a 3-0 start.
Luca Knese and
Gustavo Rivas looked sharp at the #2 slot, winning by a clean 6-0 score while
Sean Keane and
Andy Fanzaga got a crucial win at the #1 position 6-4.
In singles, all but one match would go to a third set, as both teams were gridlocked to pick up the fourth win to clinch the match. While the Bishops fell,
Albert Sitwell came up clutch at #3 singles, defeating Patrick Reese 10-6 in the third set tiebreaker.
Match 2:Â
George Mason 6, North Carolina Wesleyan 1Â
In the second match down in Hilton Head, the Battling Bishops could never get momentum to win a string of matches against the A10 foe.
Bhodan Zhylchuk would come away with the only Wesleyan win against the Division I Patriots, cruising to win the third set tiebreaker 10-1 over Hayden Postin.
Match 3:Â
North Carolina Wesleyan 5, Lake Superior State 2
In a big Bishop victory, Wesleyan got off to another hot start, sweeping the Lakers 3-0 in doubles action. In very competitive matches,
John Falke and
Logan Stoltz were clutch in a nailbiting 7-6 win at #2 doubles. At the #1 slot,
Albert Sitwell and
Diego Segovia would win with a little more breathing room and a 7-5 advantage.
In singles play,
Albert Sitwell would defeat Jordi Fraile Raton at the #4 position, 5-7, 6-4 in a two set sweep and
Andy Fanzaga would cruise to an easy win as well at #5, 6-2, 6-4.
