Rocky Mount, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan University will enshrine six new members into the school's Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, October 4
th at 6:30 PM announced by Vice President of Athletics Aaron Denton. Slated for induction are Chris Bratcher (Men's Basketball), Brandon Craig (Football), Laura Ferrell (Coach), Gene Sanguinetti (Baseball), Sean Fleming (Baseball), and Jon Rardin (Baseball).
A 1989 Battling Bishop graduate, Chris Bratcher is one of the most prolific shooters in school history, scoring over 30 points a game multiple times in his career, Bratcher made seven three pointers in a single game on December 1
st, 1987 against Mt. Olive.
Putting together two of the greatest seasons in men's basketball history, Bratcher scored an incredible 493 points in the 1987-88 season and made nearly 60 three pointers the following year.
Scoring 1,776 points in his illustrious career, Bratcher ranks third all-time on the NCWU scoring list and was a USA South all-conference selection all four years as a Battling Bishop. An all-region selection in the 1987-88 and 1988 and 89 campaigns, he was also selected as an all-tournament selection by the league in 1985-86 and 1988-89.
Earning the highest honor a Battling Bishop athlete can earn in a single academic year, Bratcher earned the 1988-89 NCWU Male Athlete of the Year accolade.
A member of N.C. Wesleyan's inaugural football team, Brandon Craig earned honorable mention all-conference honors in 2005 before putting together two remarkable campaigns in '06 and '07, where he earned first-team USA South honors in both seasons.
Being an all-region selection on the Battling Bishop's greatest team ever, Craig was an all-region selection on the '07 NCAA Tournament team that defeated Washington & Jefferson in a thrilling 35-34 victory in the opening round of the tournament.
A Battling Bishop women's basketball legend, Laura Ferrell led the program for nine seasons and has signed the most All-Americans under her watch, as compared to any other coach in women's basketball history. Coaching the likes of Rita Johnson Grimes and Rose Edmonds, Ferrell compiled a 112-94 record in her time at Wesleyan and won an impressive 18 games in the 1986-87 campaign.
A member of the 1985 conference title team, Gene Sanguinetti was named a first-team all-conference selection and on a prestigious list of Bishops who earned First-Team All-American accolades.
Sean Fleming is one of the most prolific pitchers in Battling Bishop's history tossing the third most amount of innings in school history at 306.1. A 1999 National Champion, Fleming is won 28 games in his career which ranks him third all-time in school history and is NCWU's all-time strikeout leader at 356 career K's.
Jon Rardin enters the 2024 Hall of Fame class after he had one of the most impressive seasons on the mound in Wesleyan history. Tied for the most wins in school history, Rardin compiled a perfect 12-0 record in the 1998 which saw the Bishops win over 40 games in a season for the third straight year. That season, he had the honor of being an All-American and has a career record of 24-4, which is 5
th best in school history.
The Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony will also honor all 2023-24 NCWU Athletes of the Year including Male Athlete of the Year
Tyson Bass, Female Athlete of the Year Kamiyah Wooten, Male Student-Athlete of the Year John Falke, and Female Student-Athlete of the Year
