Battling Bishops Outlook
North Carolina Wesleyan returns home to Stallings Field this weekend looking to bounce back after a hard-fought 41–24 setback at LaGrange in last week's USA South opener. The Bishops (2–2) rallied in the second half but were ultimately undone by turnovers and penalties despite a strong offensive showing.
Quarterback Javier Rice completed 16-of-24 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns, including a 63-yard strike to Michael Pannell, who finished with seven receptions for 122 yards. Nahir Seagraves continued his steady production with 88 rushing yards and a one-yard touchdown run that capped a 20-play, 75-yard drive in the second quarter.
On defense, Andrew Brown and Maliki Clark each tallied eight tackles, while Solomon Young recorded a fourth-quarter interception to help spark the Bishops' comeback attempt. Aarmon Randolph added a six-yard sack, and Braxtyn Green was solid in the kicking game with a 21-yard field goal, three PATs, and three kickoff touchbacks.
Wesleyan enters its home conference opener averaging 33.0 points and 414.5 yards per game, while Seagraves ranks among the USA South leaders in rushing yards (538) and touchdowns (5). Defensively, Brown leads the Bishops with 27 total tackles, and Mathias Winston has been a force on special teams with a blocked punt return for a touchdown earlier this year.
Scouting Belhaven
Belhaven (2–2, 1–0 USA South) travels to Rocky Mount on a high note after a thrilling 23–20 overtime win over Brevard to open conference play. The Blazers erased a 14-point second-half deficit, highlighted by two touchdown connections between quarterback Brock Morris and wide receiver Wyatt Locastro.
Morris finished 13-for-24 for 271 yards and two touchdowns, while Locastro earned USA South Offensive Player of the Week honors after hauling in three catches for 128 yards and both scores, including a 53-yard go-ahead strike in the fourth quarter. On the ground, Caleb Gallashaw paced the Blazers with 66 yards rushing as Belhaven finished with 405 total yards of offense.
Defensively, Dee Gray was named USA South Defensive Player of the Week and earned a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week after recording a career-high eleven tackles, three pass breakups, and a game-clinching interception in overtime. Lyndell Boatman added Special Teams Player of the Week honors by converting all three of his field goals, including the 18-yard overtime game-winner.
