Women’s Basketball Falls 70–62 on the Road at Roanoke

Salem, VA - North Carolina Wesleyan battled back multiple times on Saturday afternoon but came up short in a 70–62 road loss to Roanoke inside the Cregger Center. The Bishops move to 1–3 on the season.

Wesleyan found itself in an early hole, trailing 16–11 after the first quarter before stabilizing in the second period behind better defensive pressure and second-chance opportunities. The Bishops entered halftime down 34–28 and used a strong third quarter to briefly take the lead, highlighted by a 9–0 run fueled by back-to-back threes from Harmony Martin.

The game remained tight early in the fourth, with Wesleyan going ahead 52–51 on an Anaya Hall finish inside. Roanoke, however, responded with a 14–4 run over the next four minutes, capitalizing on turnovers and getting to the free-throw line to regain control. The Maroons converted 21-of-30 at the stripe and closed the game by scoring seven points in the final 14 seconds to hold off the Bishops.

Hall delivered a standout performance with 23 points, seven rebounds, and strong second-half scoring. Martin added ten points and hit two threes, while Kieara Hughes stuffed the stat sheet with six points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Dorinda Jordan chipped in six points and four rebounds, and Alexandria Belton scored five off the bench.

Wesleyan pulled down 52 rebounds, including 24 on the offensive glass, and outscored Roanoke 32–30 in the paint. The Bishops also produced seventeen points off turnovers but struggled from beyond the arc (3-for-18) and finished 9-for-16 at the line.

Roanoke (3–1) was led by Ashley Fowler's eighteen points, while Laila Staples added ten points and eight rebounds.
