Rocky Mount, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan lacrosse team opened its 2025 season Saturday afternoon, falling to Virginia Wesleyan 24-1 in non-conference action. Despite the result, the Battling Bishops showed determination and gained valuable experience against a strong Marlins squad.

Virginia Wesleyan jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, but Wesleyan continued to fight throughout the contest. Senior Maxima Iglesias provided a bright spot for the Bishops, netting her first goal of the season late in the third quarter on an unassisted effort, igniting the crowd inside Vernon T. Bradley, Jr. Stadium.
Defensively, the Bishops displayed resilience against a high-powered Marlins attack with several big saves in the second half.
