Softball Splits Opening Day Doubleheader with Bridgewater

Rocky Mount, NC – The N.C. Wesleyan softball team opened its 2025 campaign on Sunday afternoon at Edge Field, splitting a doubleheader with Bridgewater. The Bishops dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision in the opener before bouncing back with a 3-2 victory in game two.

Game 1: Bridgewater 1, N.C. Wesleyan 0

In a tightly contested pitchers' duel, Bridgewater capitalized on an error in the fifth inning to score the game's only run. The Bishops tallied six hits but were unable to break through against Mackenzie Cauthorn, who threw a complete game shutout with nine strikeouts.

Ragan Holloman led Wesleyan offensively, going 3-for-3 with a double, while Aleah Jones also added a double. Skyler Walker contributed a hit and reached base twice.

Morgan Aycock (0-1) was solid in the circle, tossing a complete game and allowing just five hits and no earned runs with four strikeouts.

Game 2: N.C. Wesleyan 3, Bridgewater 2

The Bishops rebounded in game two, scoring two runs in the fifth inning to secure a 3-2 win. After Skyler Walker scored on Kyiah Simmons' RBI single in the first, Bridgewater regained the lead on a solo homer in the fourth. Wesleyan responded in the fifth when Simmons delivered a clutch two-run single, plating Walker and Samantha Hughson.

Walker finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Simmons went 2-for-3 with all three RBIs. Kayla Simmons and Ava Lowry each added a hit.

Addyson Romanczyk (1-0) earned the win with five innings of work, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out one. Emily Humphrey closed the door with a two-inning save, surrendering just one hit.
