The Bishops opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, as Jackson Hobbs launched a solo home run to left center to quickly even the game at 1-1 after Hampden-Sydney plated a run in the top half. Wesleyan took a brief lead in the second inning when Marlon Bowen grounded out to drive in Seth Jones, putting the Bishops ahead 2-1.
Hampden-Sydney responded in the third, scoring three runs to reclaim the lead, highlighted by RBI hits from Josh Howell and Matt Arnold. The Tigers added an unearned run in the sixth to make it 5-2 before breaking the game wide open with a nine-run seventh inning, capitalizing on a combination of timely hitting, wild pitches, and defensive miscues by the Bishops.
Wesleyan showed some fight in the ninth inning, pushing across three runs, including an RBI single from Conner Ferebee and several runs scoring on wild pitches, but the deficit was too large to overcome.
Offensively, Wesleyan collected eight hits, led by Hobbs, Ferebee, and Carson Ashman, who each tallied a hit and a run scored. On the mound, Caleb Dennis (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits over two innings.
Hampden-Sydney's offense was relentless, pounding out seventeen hits. Josh Howell led the charge with three hits, three RBI, and two runs scored, while Matt Arnold added three hits and two RBI. Garrett Gregory (1-0) earned the win, allowing just two runs over 5.2 innings.
