North Myrtle Beach, SC - The N.C. Wesleyan softball team split a pair of games on Sunday at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic, rolling to a dominant 11-1 victory over Wilson College in the opener before falling in a tight 3-1 contest against Chestnut Hill in game two.
Game One: N.C. Wesleyan 11, Wilson 1 (5 Innings)
The Bishops' bats came alive in the early morning opener, as Wesleyan used an eight-run fourth inning to power past Wilson. The offensive outburst was highlighted by Savannah Bain's inside-the-park home run, driving in two runs and extending the Bishops' lead.
Skyler Walker sparked the offense, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored, while Kyiah Simmons delivered a pair of hits and two RBIs. The Bishops combined for nine hits overall, showing patience at the plate and aggressive baserunning, swiping five bases as a team.
In the circle, Emily Humphrey earned her first win of the season, allowing just one run on five hits over 4.1 innings, striking out six. Morgan Aycock came on in relief to record the final two outs and seal the victory.
Game Two: Chestnut Hill 3, N.C. Wesleyan 1
In the second game of the day, Wesleyan took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Kyiah Simmons singled home Skyler Walker. However, Chestnut Hill answered with two runs in the third and added an insurance run in the fourth to edge the Bishops 3-1.
The Bishops struggled to find timely hits against Chestnut Hill starter Maya Kemper, who tossed a complete game, allowing just four hits and striking out three.
Addyson Romanczyk (1-2) took the loss despite a strong outing, allowing two runs over 2.2 innings. Morgan Aycock pitched effectively in relief, giving up one run over 3.1 innings to keep the game close.
