Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Celebrates Senior Class, Blanks Brevard in Dominant DH Sweep

Rocky Mount, NC - On a special day honoring both the senior class and program alumni, the N.C. Wesleyan softball team delivered a statement doubleheader sweep over USA South foe Brevard on Saturday afternoon at Edge Field. The Bishops rolled to a 9-1 win in game one before shutting out the Tornados 8-0 in six innings in game two to improve to 19-13 overall on the season.

Before first pitch, the program recognized five impactful seniors—Morgan Aycock, Emily Humphrey, Alexis Whitfield, Keira Boisvert, and Skyler Walker—for their dedication and contributions both on and off the field. The celebration also included an Alumni Day ceremony, spotlighting the historic DIAC champion teams of 1994, 1995, and 1996 that helped lay the foundation for future NCAA Tournament runs.

Game 1: N.C. Wesleyan 9, Brevard 1 (5 innings)

The Bishops wasted no time jumping on the scoreboard. After Brevard scratched across an unearned run in the first, Kayla Simmons answered with a two-RBI double in the bottom half to give Wesleyan the lead for good. Ragan Holloman tacked on an RBI single in the second and later broke things open with a bases-clearing triple in a six-run fifth inning that ended the game via mercy rule.

Holloman finished 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs, while Simmons, Savannah Bain, and Alexis Whitfield each added extra-base hits.

Senior Emily Humphrey was sharp in the circle, tossing a one-hit complete game with two strikeouts to improve to 7-4 on the season.

Game 2: N.C. Wesleyan 8, Brevard 0 (6 innings)

Game two followed a similar script as Wesleyan jumped out early and never looked back. Senior Morgan Aycock dominated in the circle, throwing six shutout innings while allowing just one hit and striking out six to earn her sixth win of the year.

At the plate, Kyiah Simmons launched a three-run homer in the first inning, setting the tone for a five-run frame. Whitfield added a two-RBI single, while Bain and Aleah Jones kept the pressure on the basepaths.

The Bishops drew twelve walks in the game and stole five bases, showcasing both patience and aggression on offense.

A Special Day for Bishop Softball

The seniors left their mark not only in the scorebook but in the hearts of fans and teammates:

  • Morgan Aycock, a standout on the field and across campus organizations, reflected on "shopping sprees after big wins and endless game nights with teammates."

  • Emily Humphrey, known for her passion and poise, cited last year's win over then-undefeated Pfeiffer as a top moment.

  • Alexis Whitfield will soon move to Italy to pursue a Master's in Robotics Engineering after getting married this summer.

  • Keira Boisvert, recognized for academic excellence, shared fond memories of karaoke bus rides and snowy afternoons.

  • Skyler Walker, beloved for her energy and leadership, called the Myrtle Beach bonding trips with her team her most treasured moments.
