Baseball Falls on the Road to Randolph-Macon in Midweek Matchup

Ashland, VA - The North Carolina Wesleyan baseball team dropped a midweek non-conference contest on Tuesday afternoon, falling 14-3 to Randolph-Macon at Estes Park.

The Bishops jumped ahead briefly with a strong second inning, but the Yellow Jackets responded in force, scoring in five of their six offensive frames.

After falling behind 2-0 in the bottom of the first, Wesleyan answered in the top of the second with a three-run inning. Maison Nance brought in the first run on a sacrifice fly, followed by a Jacob Trivette RBI single that tied the game. Aydin Zimmerman then delivered a sacrifice fly of his own to give the Bishops a short-lived 3-2 lead.

Randolph-Macon responded with three runs of its own in the bottom of the second and never looked back, adding four more in the fourth and three in the fifth. The Yellow Jackets compiled fifteen hits overall, including five extra-base hits and three sacrifice flies.

Colin Scoggins led the Bishops at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Trivette added two hits and an RBI, while Brady Williams and Malachi Hayes also reached base and scored in the second inning rally.

On the mound, Sam Johnson (0-3) took the loss after working 1.1 innings. The Bishops used five pitchers in total, with Mason Botbol closing out the game.

Randolph-Macon's Simmons earned the win in relief, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings, while Paschal secured the save with three shutout frames and six strikeouts.
