Women's Tennis Stays Perfect in League Play with Sweep of Methodist

Rocky Mount, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan women's tennis team continued its impressive run through USA South play on Tuesday afternoon, blanking Methodist 7-0 at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center. With the win, the Battling Bishops improved to 6-0 in conference action and 5-6 overall on the season.

Wesleyan set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles courts. Bethan Fothergill and Renata Torres rolled to a 6-3 win at the No. 1 position, while Andrea Elaez Miranda and Ivanna Torres secured a tight 7-5 decision at No. 2. The Bishops completed the doubles sweep thanks to a 7-5 victory on court three by Melanie Guzman Gonzalez and Linda Nhiwatiwa.

In singles play, the Bishops made quick work of the Monarchs. Andrea Elaez Miranda was dominant on court one, cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 win. Fothergill (6-4, 6-1), Ivanna Torres (6-0, 6-1), and Ajla Selimovic (6-0, 6-3) each followed suit with straight-set wins.

The most competitive match of the day came at No. 4 singles, where Renata Torres rallied from a set down to outlast her opponent 4-6, 7-5, [10-7] in a super tiebreak. Guzman Gonzalez capped off the sweep with a 7-5, 6-0 victory at No. 6.
