Staunton, VA - The North Carolina Wesleyan baseball team exploded for 37 runs on 34 hits in Saturday's doubleheader to sweep Mary Baldwin and complete the weekend series sweep at Shifflett Field.
The Battling Bishops took game one 13-7 before cruising to a 24-7 rout in game two, improving to 11-23 on the season and 6-12 in USA South play.
Game One: N.C. Wesleyan 13, Mary Baldwin 7
Wesleyan used a fast start and a late surge to take the opener, scoring three runs in the first and five more in the final two innings. The Bishops racked up fifteen hits, with Jackson Hobbs and Brady Williams combining for six.
Hobbs finished 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs, three RBIs, and three runs scored. Jackson Ellyson and Maison Nance also collected two hits and scored twice each, while Javier Quintana launched a three-run homer in the ninth to cap the scoring.
On the mound, Drake Hobgood (3-4) earned the win, going six innings with zero earned runs and two strikeouts. Preston Workman threw the final three frames to preserve the victory.
Game Two: N.C. Wesleyan 24, Mary Baldwin 7
The Bishops' offense erupted in game two, posting ten runs in the second inning and scoring in six frames. Every starter reached base, and seven different players recorded at least one RBI.
Seth Jones led the charge, going 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, and five RBIs, while Maison Nance added a 3-for-4 effort with a home run and three RBIs. Hobbs turned in another monster performance, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs, three runs, and two doubles.
Ellyson, Scoggins, and Williams each collected multiple hits, and Wesleyan drew twelve walks in the game.
Senior Kam Walker (1-1) picked up his first win with 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, while Colby Lewis started and went 4.1 innings despite a rocky first two frames.
