Baseball Celebrates Senior Day; Hobbs Becomes Wesleyan’s All-Time Hits Leader

Rocky Mount, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan baseball team celebrated its 2025 Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at Bauer Field, honoring its senior class while witnessing a historic milestone as Jackson Hobbs became the program's all-time hits leader. Despite dropping both ends of the doubleheader against visiting Greensboro, Hobbs etched his name into the Wesleyan record books by collecting career hit No. 272 to surpass Matt Smith's previous mark of 271.

The graduate student first baseman, who has been a staple in the Bishops' lineup throughout his career, achieved the milestone in game two with an RBI single up the middle in the fourth inning, further cementing his legacy in Wesleyan baseball history.

Game One: Greensboro 19, N.C. Wesleyan 7 (8)

The opener saw a fast start from the Bishops, as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning behind a two-run homer from Javier Quintana and RBI singles from Malachi Hayes and Brady Williams. Quintana would later add his second home run of the game in the fourth, but Greensboro stormed back with a huge seven-run seventh inning and continued to pile on late to take game one by a 19-7 score.

Jackson Hobbs notched a pair of hits in the contest, while Jackson Ellyson went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Hayes also recorded two hits and an RBI, and Williams drove in two for the Bishops.

Drake Hobgood worked 6.1 innings on the mound in the start, allowing four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts, but a big seventh inning by the Pride's offense proved to be the turning point.

Game Two: Greensboro 11, N.C. Wesleyan 10

Game two was a back-and-forth affair that featured another strong offensive showing from the Bishops, highlighted by Hobbs' record-breaking hit. After falling behind early, Wesleyan responded with five runs in the second inning, including RBIs from Hayes, Maison Nance, Seth Jones, Ellyson, and Quintana.

The Bishops would reclaim the lead again in the fourth, capped by Hobbs' historic single that brought home Brady Williams for Wesleyan's seventh run of the game. Greensboro, however, continued to chip away, scoring in five consecutive innings and ultimately holding off a late Wesleyan rally.

Ellyson once again led the way at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs. Williams also tallied three hits and scored three times, while Quintana finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
