Raleigh, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan women's tennis team delivered a commanding performance on Tuesday afternoon, sweeping USA South foe Meredith 7-0 at the Meredith Tennis Complex.
With the victory, the Bishops improve to 3-5 overall and remain unbeaten in conference play at 3-0. Meredith drops to 0-8 on the season.
Wesleyan set the tone early by cruising through doubles play. At the top line, Renata Torres and Bethan Fothergill earned a convincing 6-1 win. Andrea Elaez Miranda and Ivanna Torres followed suit with a 6-0 shutout on court two, while Linda Nhiwatiwa and Melanie Guzman Gonzalez matched that dominance with another 6-0 victory at No. 3.
The Bishops carried that momentum into singles, where NCWU didn't drop a single match. Elaez Miranda led the way at No. 1 singles, blanking her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Fothergill was strong at the No. 2 spot, earning a 6-2, 6-2 win, and Renata Torres posted a 6-0, 6-1 result at No. 3.
The bottom half of the lineup kept the pressure on, with Nhiwatiwa (6-0, 6-1), Ajla Selimovic (6-1, 6-1), and Solomiia Badii (6-0, 6-0) all registering straight-set wins to complete the shutout.
