Brevard, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan women's tennis team extended its perfect conference record on Wednesday afternoon, rolling to a 7-0 sweep over BrevardĀ at the McCoy Tennis Complex. With the win, the Battling Bishops improve to 4-5 overall and 4-0 in USA South competition.
The Bishops jumped out to an early lead by sweeping doubles play. Ivanna Torres and Andrea Elaez Miranda cruised to a 6-1 win on Court 2 before Bethan Fothergill and Renata Torres followed with a 6-2 victory at No. 1. The duo of Melanie Guzman Gonzalez and Linda Nhiwatiwa sealed the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win on Court 3.
In singles play, Wesleyan kept the momentum rolling. Elaez Miranda breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1, while Fothergill matched that effort with a 6-3, 6-3 victory on Court 2. Ivanna Torres added a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3, and Renata Torres mirrored that performance with a 6-2, 6-0 result on Court 4.
At the bottom of the lineup, Ajla Selimovic handled her match at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-3 win. Nhiwatiwa rounded out the sweep in a three-set thriller at No. 5, taking a 6-4, 1-6, 10-5 win in the super tiebreaker.
