Rocky Mount, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan softball team kicked off its 2025 USA South Conference Tournament run with a strong 7-2 victory over Methodist on Thursday afternoon at Edge Field.
The Bishops (27-14) exploded for four runs in the opening inning, capitalizing on timely hits and a home run by Savannah Bain to set the tone early. Ragan Holloman delivered an RBI single, Kyiah Simmons followed with an RBI double, and Kayla Simmons added a sacrifice fly before Bain capped off the rally with a solo homer to left.
Holloman drove in her second run of the day in the second inning, plating Katie Whitehurst to give Wesleyan a 5-0 lead. Methodist scratched across single runs in the fourth and seventh innings, but NCWU responded with two insurance runs in the fifth, helped by an error and a sacrifice fly from Ava Lowry.
Morgan Aycock earned the win in the circle, improving to 11-5 on the season. The junior right-hander struck out six and allowed just one earned run over 6.1 innings. Emily Humphrey came in to secure the final two outs and seal the victory.
Offensively, the Bishops totaled eight hits, including multi-hit games from Holloman and Kyiah Simmons. Bain scored twice and drove in a run while also making key plays at third base.
