Softball Advances to Bracket Two Championship with Victory Over Greensboro

Rocky Mount, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan softball team continued its postseason push on Friday afternoon with a 4-2 victory over Greensboro in the USA South Conference Tournament, advancing to the bracket two championship game.

The Bishops (28-14) erased an early 1-0 deficit with a three-run second inning, capitalizing on a pair of errors and clutch at-bats to seize control. Savannah Bain opened the frame with a single before Kylyn Dean and Ramzie Bryant reached to load the bases. Skyler Walker's RBI single tied the game, and RBI walks by Ragan Holloman and Kyiah Simmons gave Wesleyan a 3-1 lead.

In the fourth, the Bishops added insurance when Alexis Whitfield doubled and later scored on an error, extending the lead to 4-1.

In the circle, Emily Humphrey earned the win with 5.1 solid innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out four. Morgan Aycock came on in relief, retiring five of six batters faced to notch the save.

Greensboro (29-13) struck first in the opening inning on an RBI single from Ella Ebert and added a second run in the sixth, but the Bishops' defense and pitching held firm down the stretch.

With the win, Wesleyan advances to Saturday's bracket two championship at 2:00 PM. The Bishops will face Greensboro again, as the Pride stayed alive with an elimination game win over Southern Virginia. Greensboro will need to defeat Wesleyan twice to advance to the conference title series.
