Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Battling Bishops Drop Home Opener

The NC Wesleyan men's soccer team battled hard at Scalf Field on Wednesday but came up short in a 3–1 defeat to Roanoke College. The Bishops Tom Roantree, reigning USA South Player of the Week, provided the goal for the Bishops. Roanoke struck first in the opening half, forcing Wesleyan to chase the match from early on. Despite creating some attacking opportunities, the Bishops were unable to convert before halftime and went into the break trailing. In the second half, Roanoke doubled its advantage before Wesleyan answered back. The Bishops found their lone goal through the aforementioned Tom Roantree. His strike gave Wesleyan renewed energy and shifted momentum. Owen White also played an important role in the attack, providing the assist that set up Roantree's tally. Goalkeeper Jacob Westermark turned in a busy performance in net, making several key saves to limit Roanoke's scoring, but the visitors eventually added a third goal to seal the result.

The Battling Bishops look forward to their second home match of the season on Sunday, September 14, for alumni day where the Bishop women play at 2pm followed by the Bishop men around 4pm.
