North Carolina Wesleyan men's soccer claimed their first win of the year with a resilient 2–1 win at Oglethorpe University's Salamone Soccer Field in Atlanta.

The Petrels struck early, taking the lead in the 12th minute when Ethan Martinez capped a quick build-up play to beat the visiting defense and goalkeeper Elliott Helander. The early setback challenged the Bishops to respond in the second half. 

Displaying poise and persistence, NC Wesleyan turned the momentum in the second period. The equalizer came at 62:27, when the Bishops' Tom Roantree slotted the ball home from close range off a precise assist by Felix Akselsen. The goal reignited NCWU's momentum and set the stage for a late-game finish. Roantree delivered the game-winner at 85:11, converting a beautifully timed assist from Sebastian Morera to put the Bishops ahead for good.

From a team perspective, NC Wesleyan outshot Oglethorpe 15 to 7 overall, with a 7–2 edge in shots on goal. The Bishops were also assertive in attack, winning eight corners compared to the Petrels' three. On defense, the Bishops limited Oglethorpe to just two shots on frame while conceding only once—underlining a disciplined performance at the back.

Individually, Roantree's two-goal performance stood out as the catalyst for victory. Akselsen and Morera each tallied a crucial assist, contributing to the game-changing plays. Helander anchored the back, making key saves after halftime to maintain the lead and secure the result. The Battling Bishops return for the first home contest of the season on Friday, September 12th vs. Roanoke College.
