Rocky Mount, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan softball returned to Edge Field on February 25 for a doubleheader against Virginia Wesleyan. Despite strong individual efforts, the Battling Bishops fell in both contests, dropping the opener 10-0 and the nightcap 14-1.
In game one, Wesleyan was limited to two hits on the afternoon, both coming off the bat of Kayla Simmons, who went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate. The Bishops looked to build momentum in the second inning after Simmons singled to right, but the rally was cut short. Kendall Wallace started in the circle and worked four innings, while Jaden Clark provided relief in the fifth. Virginia Wesleyan used a four-run second inning and added insurance in the fourth and fifth to secure the 10-0 decision.
In the second game of the day, Virginia Wesleyan struck early and erupted for a 13-run third inning to pull away. Wesleyan answered in the bottom of the third when Vivian Lloyd singled and later came around to score on an RBI single from Ragan Holloman. Lloyd paced the Bishops offensively with two hits, while Kayla Simmons also recorded a base hit in the contest. Addyson Romanczyk started the game in the circle, with Ava Strickland coming on in relief to close out the final three innings.
Although the scoreboard did not fall in Wesleyan's favor, the Bishops continued to compete throughout both games, highlighted by consistent defensive effort and timely hitting as they look ahead to their next matchup.
