Wesleyan Shows Fight in Series Finale

Rocky Mount, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan closed out its three-game series against LaGrange College on Sunday afternoon at Bauer Field, falling 10-5 in the finale. The Battling Bishops battled back late after trailing through the middle innings, trimming the deficit to one before LaGrange used a big ninth inning to pull away.

LaGrange struck first with a run in the second and added two more in the sixth and seventh innings to build a 5-0 advantage. Nathanael Volk made the start for Wesleyan, working six innings and allowing five runs while striking out two. Preston Workman provided two innings of relief before Dylan Krol and Domenic Azzarello closed out the game on the mound.

Wesleyan mounted its rally in the seventh and eighth innings. In the seventh, Matthew Hannah worked a walk and later scored when Brady Williams delivered an RBI single. Riley Anderson followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home another run, cutting the deficit to 5-2. The Bishops continued to chip away in the eighth as Maison Nance singled and later scored on an RBI base hit from Aydin Zimmerman. Conner Ferebee drew a bases-loaded walk to force in another run, and Anderson added a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 5-5.

However, LaGrange responded with four runs in the ninth, highlighted by a three-run triple, before adding another run to secure the series finale. Despite the setback, the Bishops showed resilience with timely situational hitting and continued to compete through the final out at Bauer Field.
