The NC Wesleyan men's tennis team faced a tough test against No. 17 Carnegie Mellon on March 21 at the Boar's Head Resort, falling 5-2 in a competitive matchup against one of the nation's top-ranked programs.
Carnegie Mellon claimed the early advantage by sweeping all three doubles matches, putting the Bishops behind heading into singles play.
NC Wesleyan responded with strong efforts across the singles lineup, earning two key victories. Ben Russell delivered a standout performance at No. 4 singles, securing a straight-set win with a 7-6, 6-4 decision. Martin Cardestig followed with a hard-fought three-set victory at No. 5, battling to a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 win to add another point for the Bishops.
Several other matches were closely contested. Adam Singleton pushed his No. 2 singles match to three sets, while Largo Koch also forced a deciding set at No. 6. Despite the final result, the Bishops competed strongly across multiple courts against a nationally ranked opponent.
The match provided valuable experience for NC Wesleyan as they continue to face top-tier competition and build momentum throughout the season.
