Fayetteville, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan women's tennis team opened USA South Conference play in dominant fashion on March 25, defeating Methodist University 6-1 at the Gene Clayton Tennis Center.
The Bishops wasted no time setting the tone, sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. Bethan Fothergill and Renata Torres led the way with a commanding 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Ivanna Torres and Andrea Elaez Miranda followed with a 6-2 win at No. 2. Ajla Selimovic and Peyton McGahey completed the sweep with another 6-2 decision at No. 3 doubles.
NC Wesleyan carried that momentum into singles play, winning five of the six matches. Andrea Elaez Miranda controlled the No. 1 singles court with a 6-1, 6-3 victory, and Bethan Fothergill followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2. Ivanna Torres added another straight-set performance at No. 3, winning 6-2, 6-3.
Ajla Selimovic continued the strong showing with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5, and BreAnn Ferguson closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 6. Methodist picked up its lone point at No. 4 singles, but the Bishops controlled the match throughout.
With the win, NC Wesleyan showcased its depth across the lineup, earning a strong conference-opening victory and continuing its momentum in USA South play.
