Newport News, V.A. - The NC Wesleyan women's tennis team faced a tough challenge on March 28, taking on No. 23 Christopher Newport on the road at the James River Country Club, falling 6-1.
The Bishops showed early competitiveness in doubles play, earning a strong victory at No. 2 doubles as Ivanna Torres and Andrea Elaez Miranda secured a 7-5 win. Despite the effort, Christopher Newport claimed the other two doubles courts to take the early 2-1 advantage.
In singles play, NC Wesleyan battled across the lineup against a nationally ranked opponent. BreAnn Ferguson delivered the highlight of the match at No. 6 singles, earning a hard-fought three-set victory in a super tiebreak to secure the Bishops' lone point.
Several other matches featured competitive moments, but Christopher Newport was able to control the remaining courts to secure the team win.
Despite the final result, NC Wesleyan gained valuable experience against top-level competition, continuing to test itself against nationally ranked programs as the season progresses.
