North Carolina Wesleyan softball competed in the Triangle Collegiate Softball Classic over spring break in Raleigh, playing six games across three days against several Division III opponents. The Battling Bishops delivered strong offensive performances throughout the tournament, highlighted by multiple double-digit scoring outputs and several standout pitching efforts.
Game 1 – N.C. Wesleyan 8, Elmira 0
Wesleyan opened the tournament with a dominant shutout victory over Elmira, building early momentum with a three-run first inning and adding two more in the second to take control of the game. Savannah Bain and Kendall Wallace each delivered RBI singles in the opening frame, while Ragan Holloman and Kyiah Simmons added run-producing hits in the second to push the lead to 5-0. The Bishops continued to tack on runs late, scoring once in the sixth and twice in the seventh to secure the 8-0 win. Wallace also shined in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout with nine strikeouts while allowing seven hits.
Game 2 – N.C. Wesleyan 11, Rowan 9
The Bishops followed with an explosive offensive performance in a comeback victory against Rowan. After Rowan erupted for seven runs in the second inning, Wesleyan responded with three runs in the bottom half of the frame before surging ahead with a four-run fourth inning and three more in the fifth. Brooke Markiewicz powered the offense with two doubles and five RBI, while Kayla Simmons added a home run and two RBI. Aleah Jones and Frances Hanshew each collected key hits during the rally. Ava Strickland delivered strong relief work in the circle, pitching 5.1 innings to earn the win and help seal the 11-9 victory.
Game 3 – N.C. Wesleyan 10, Sweet Briar 2
Wesleyan carried its momentum into the next day, defeating Sweet Briar behind a late offensive surge. After a scoreless start through three innings, the Bishops broke through in the fourth when Savannah Bain singled home a run. Wesleyan added two more in the fifth before erupting for seven runs in the sixth to put the game away. Brooke Markiewicz and Ragan Holloman each recorded multi-hit games, while Kyiah Simmons added two hits and an RBI. Addyson Romanczyk earned the win in the circle, working 5.2 innings while allowing two runs and striking out three.
Game 4 – N.C. Wesleyan 9, Randolph 2
In their second game of the day, the Bishops continued their offensive rhythm with a convincing victory over Randolph. Wesleyan responded quickly after allowing an early run, tying the game in the first before exploding for five runs in the second inning. Brooke Markiewicz, Lexi Howerton, and Vivian Lloyd each delivered key hits during the rally as the Bishops built a commanding lead. Wesleyan added two more runs in the third and another in the sixth to finish with 10 hits in the contest. Jaden Clark earned the win after pitching six strong innings, allowing just two runs while striking out two.
Game 5 – N.C. Wesleyan 6, Salisbury 3
The Bishops continued their strong tournament showing with a victory over Salisbury behind a balanced effort at the plate and in the circle. Kyiah Simmons provided an early spark with a solo home run in the first inning, while Kendall Wallace contributed both offensively and defensively, scoring twice and driving in a run. Wesleyan broke the game open in the sixth inning with a three-run frame to take control. Wallace also went the distance in the circle, allowing just three runs on five hits across seven innings to secure the win.
Game 6 – Averett 6, N.C. Wesleyan 3
In the tournament finale, Wesleyan battled Averett in a competitive matchup but ultimately fell 6-3. The Bishops struck early when Savannah Bain singled home a run in the first inning, and Brooke Markiewicz later added a solo home run as Wesleyan totaled eight hits in the contest. Kayla Simmons also contributed with two hits and an RBI. However, Averett used a four-run fifth inning to pull ahead and hold off the Bishops down the stretch.
