Bishops Fall to Randolph-Macon in Doubleheader

Rocky Mount, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan softball hosted Randolph-Macon for a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Edge Field, falling in both contests against a strong Yellow Jackets squad.

In game one, the Battling Bishops were limited offensively in a 7-0 loss. Wesleyan managed just two hits in the contest, coming from Brooke Markiewicz and Kyiah Simmons, with Simmons recording a double. The Bishops threatened early but were unable to capitalize, while Randolph-Macon broke through with a two-run third inning and added insurance runs in the fifth and sixth to pull away. Kendall Wallace started in the circle and worked into the sixth inning before Addyson Romanczyk came on in relief. Despite the result, Wesleyan's defense held firm early before the Yellow Jackets' offense gained momentum.

In the second game, Wesleyan struck first but was unable to hold off a late push, falling 5-2. The Bishops plated a run in the opening inning when Savannah Bain and Vivian Lloyd connected on back-to-back hits to bring in the game's first run. Wesleyan added another in the third, taking advantage of a passed ball to extend the lead to 2-0. Randolph-Macon responded with two runs in the fourth to tie the game before capitalizing on errors in the sixth inning to take control with a three-run frame. Wesleyan finished with nine hits, led by Ragan Holloman and Vivian Lloyd, who each recorded multiple hits. Ava Strickland went the distance in the circle, allowing five runs (three earned) while striking out four.

The Battling Bishops showed flashes offensively throughout the doubleheader but were unable to overcome timely hitting from Randolph-Macon, as Wesleyan looks to bounce back in its next outing.
