Bishops Fall in High-Scoring Series Finale

Rocky Mount, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan wrapped up its three-game series with Mary Baldwin on Sunday at Bauer Field, falling in a high-scoring 13-12 battle despite a strong offensive effort and multiple comeback attempts throughout the game. The Battling Bishops totaled 11 hits and erased an early seven-run deficit, showing resilience in a back-and-forth contest.

Mary Baldwin jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning, but Wesleyan responded immediately as Malachi Hayes launched a solo home run and Banks Hartman delivered a two-RBI double to highlight a four-run frame. The Bishops continued to chip away in the second, with Riley Anderson driving in two runs on a double and Brady Williams adding a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 8-7.

Wesleyan tied the game in the fourth when Williams delivered a two-RBI single, and later took its first lead in the fifth as Jake Flowers scored on an error. After trading runs, the Bishops extended their lead in the seventh when Maison Nance blasted a two-run home run to put Wesleyan ahead 12-9.

Mary Baldwin answered late, scoring once in the eighth before a three-run ninth inning regained the lead at 13-12. Despite the setback, Wesleyan had several standout performances at the plate, with Hayes collecting three hits and an RBI, Nance scoring four times and driving in two runs, and Flowers adding three hits and an RBI. Hartman and Anderson each recorded extra-base hits and multiple RBIs, while Williams drove in three runs in the effort.

On the mound, Wesleyan used a combination of Chase Chappell, Drake Hobgood, Aaron Holley, Caleb Dennis, Parker Sherrod, and Jackson Pavone, battling throughout the game before the late rally by Mary Baldwin secured the series finale.
