Fredericksburg, V.A. - The NC Wesleyan men's tennis team faced a strong challenge on April 21, traveling to take on No. 12 Mary Washington and falling 5-2 in a matchup between nationally ranked programs.
Mary Washington took control early by sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. The Bishops were competitive, including a close battle at No. 3 doubles, but the Eagles carried momentum into singles play.
NC Wesleyan responded with strong efforts in singles, earning two key victories. Albert Sitwell delivered a standout performance at No. 2 singles, battling through a three-set match and securing the win in a super tiebreak. Martin Cardestig followed with another three-set victory at No. 5, also clinching his match in a super tiebreak.
Several other matches featured competitive moments, including a tight three-set battle at No. 4 singles, but Mary Washington was able to secure victories on the remaining courts to clinch the team result.
Despite the final score, NC Wesleyan showed resilience against a top-15 opponent, gaining valuable experience while continuing to compete at a high level late in the season.
