Baltimore, M.D. - The NC Wesleyan men's tennis team faced a strong challenge on April 11, traveling to take on No. 8 Johns Hopkins and falling 4-1 in a competitive matchup between nationally ranked programs.
The Blue Jays took control early by sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. The Bishops were competitive on each court, including a tight battle at No. 1 doubles, but Johns Hopkins was able to claim the early advantage.
In singles play, NC Wesleyan continued to compete against one of the nation's top teams. Ben Russell provided the highlight for the Bishops at No. 3 singles, earning a win by opponent retirement after taking the opening set.
Several other matches featured competitive stretches, including extended battles at multiple courts before going unfinished once the match was decided. However, Johns Hopkins secured victories on key courts to clinch the overall result.
Despite the final score, NC Wesleyan showed resilience against a top-10 opponent, gaining valuable experience and continuing to test itself against elite competition as the season progresses.
