Bishops Fall to Christopher Newport in Doubleheader

Rocky Mount, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan softball hosted Christopher Newport for a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Edge Field, falling in both contests against the nationally-ranked Captains.

In game one, the Battling Bishops dropped a 10-2 decision despite early power at the plate. Brooke Markiewicz put Wesleyan on the board in the first inning with a solo home run, and Kyiah Simmons added another solo shot in the third. However, Christopher Newport used a strong offensive showing, including a three-run first inning and continued scoring throughout, to pull away. Wesleyan finished with five hits in the contest, with Kyiah Simmons leading the way with two hits, while Vivian Lloyd and Caleigh Warf each added hits.

In the second game, Wesleyan showed resilience but ultimately fell 6-3 in a competitive matchup. The Bishops struck first in the opening inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues to take a 1-0 lead. After Christopher Newport responded with six runs across the second and third innings, Wesleyan chipped away in the fourth. Ragan Holloman reached base and later scored, while additional runs came across on defensive errors to cut the deficit to 6-3. The Bishops threatened late, putting runners on in the sixth and seventh innings, but were unable to complete the comeback. Brooke Markiewicz and Aleah Jones each recorded hits in the contest, while Kyiah Simmons added a double.

Despite the results, the Battling Bishops continued to compete against strong competition, showing flashes offensively and creating opportunities throughout both games.
