Rocky Mount, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan women's tennis team opened the USA South Conference Tournament in dominant fashion on April 24, sweeping Southern Virginia 4-0 at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center to advance to the championship match.
The Bishops took early control in doubles play, securing the doubles point with convincing wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Andrea Elaez Miranda and Ivanna Torres earned a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Ajla Selimovic and Peyton McGahey followed with a 6-2 win at No. 3 to give Wesleyan the advantage.
NC Wesleyan carried that momentum into singles, quickly closing out the match by winning three courts in straight sets. Ivanna Torres led the way at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory, while Renata Torres followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4. BreAnn Ferguson sealed the match at No. 6 singles with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 performance.
Several other matches were in progress when the match was decided, but the Bishops' depth and efficiency allowed them to secure the 4-0 sweep.
With the win, NC Wesleyan advances to the USA South Conference Championship, where the Bishops will face Methodist University with the title on the line.
