Raleigh, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan softball dropped a road doubleheader to Meredith on Saturday afternoon, falling 9-3 in the opener before coming up short 4-2 in game two.
In game one, the Battling Bishops were unable to recover from a big second inning by Meredith, which proved to be the difference in a 9-3 loss. After a scoreless first, Meredith erupted for eight runs in the second to take control early. Wesleyan showed resilience late, scoring twice in the fifth on a two-RBI double from Ragan Holloman and adding another run in the sixth when Caleigh Warf drove in Jaden Clark. Holloman led the offense with two hits and two RBI, while Warf added a hit and an RBI. Jaden Clark also recorded a hit and scored a run as the Bishops totaled six hits in the contest.
In the second game, Wesleyan battled in a much tighter contest but ultimately fell 4-2. Meredith broke a scoreless tie in the third inning with a two-run double, and later added two more runs in the fifth to extend the lead. The Bishops answered in the sixth when Ramzie Bryant delivered an RBI double to score Kendall Wallace, and added another run in the seventh as Brooke Markiewicz tripled and brought home Ragan Holloman. Wesleyan finished with seven hits in the game, with Holloman recording two hits to lead the offense, while Bryant and Markiewicz each drove in runs. Ava Strickland went the distance in the circle, allowing four runs while keeping the Bishops within striking distance throughout.
Despite the results, the Battling Bishops continued to compete offensively in both games, showing fight late as they look to bounce back in their next outing.
