Fayetteville, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan secured the series victory on the road at Methodist with a dominant 10-0 win in game three on Sunday afternoon, clinching the series after dropping game one and responding with back-to-back wins. The Battling Bishops totaled 11 hits and nine walks while the pitching staff combined for a shutout, controlling the game from start to finish.
Wesleyan jumped out early in the first inning when Schumata Brown delivered a two-RBI double to give the Bishops a 2-0 lead. The offense broke the game open in the third, as Brown added a two-RBI single and Marlon Bowen followed with a two-run base hit to extend the lead to 6-0. The Bishops continued to apply pressure, adding a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Jake Flowers before pushing across two more in the sixth with a bases-loaded walk from Banks Hartman and a sacrifice fly from Brown.
The Bishops added to their lead late, including an RBI single from Drew Krause in the eighth, as they built a double-digit advantage. Brown led the offense with three hits and five RBIs, while Bowen added three hits and two RBIs. Brady Williams reached base five times and scored three runs, and Hartman contributed an RBI in the win.
On the mound, Drake Hobgood earned the win with five scoreless innings, striking out eight and allowing just three hits. Preston Workman and Sam Johnson followed in relief to complete the shutout, limiting Methodist to six hits on the day as Wesleyan closed out the series in commanding fashion.
