Belmont, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan women's tennis team earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Belmont Abbey on April 7 at the Reidy Tennis Center, showcasing resilience and clutch performances in singles play.
After dropping two of the three doubles matches, the Bishops entered singles play trailing 2-1. Ajla Selimovic and Peyton McGahey secured the lone doubles win for Wesleyan with a 6-4 victory at No. 3 doubles to keep the match within reach.
NC Wesleyan responded in singles by winning four of the six matches to claim the team victory. Ivanna Torres led the charge at No. 3 singles with a straight-set 7-6, 7-6 win, while Renata Torres followed with a 7-6, 7-6 victory at No. 4. Ajla Selimovic added another point with a convincing 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 5.
BreAnn Ferguson delivered the decisive performance at No. 6 singles, grinding out a 7-6, 7-5 victory to secure the match for the Bishops.
Despite early adversity, NC Wesleyan's depth and composure in singles proved to be the difference, as the Bishops rallied to earn the 4-3 win and continue their strong play during the spring season.
